The red carpet at the Dutton Ranch premiere was anything but predictable. Television icon Martha Stewart unexpectedly materialized, delivering a surprisingly heartfelt compliment to Kelly Reilly – and a bombshell revelation about the origins of her iconic character, Beth Dutton.
A moment of unexpected idol worship
Stewart, a dedicated Yellowstone fan, approached Reilly during the Hollywood fanfare, declaring, “You are the badass of baddasses.” The actress, clearly taken aback, responded with an even bolder statement: “You are my idol. I may have based my character partly on somebody.”
Reilly proceeded to dissect Stewart’s qualities – “your character, your beauty, your inner fire, your belief in yourself, and your unapologetic…” – before Stewart gently corrected her, pointing out Reilly’s British accent. “I didn’t know,” Stewart chuckled, “You are so fabulous.” The exchange, captured on camera by John Lamparski of Getty Images, quickly went viral, injecting a healthy dose of surrealism into the already high-stakes event.
But the surprises didn’t end there. According to Reilly, the genesis of Beth’s complex and often ruthless persona owes a significant debt to Stewart herself. The actress hinted at a subtle, perhaps unconscious, influence, a fascinating detail that adds another layer to the character’s already captivating narrative.

Rip hauser’s surprising perspective
Meanwhile, Cole Hauser, portraying the stoic Rip, offered a refreshingly candid assessment of the project’s evolution. “Not a fucking chance, man,” he admitted, recalling the initial script. “I only had two scenes in the original script that Taylor [Sheridan] wrote [for Yellowstone], and it just kind of grew. Obviously, the fans have spoken. They love these characters, and it’s a dream come true.” Hauser’s genuine enthusiasm underscored the immense popularity of the Yellowstone universe.
Dutton Ranch, a prequel series, explores the origins of the Dutton family and the tumultuous events leading up to the final episodes of Yellowstone season five. The focus is squarely on Beth and Rip as they forge a new path, far from the familiar landscapes of Montana.
