Rebus returns: dark and moody detective back for season 2

BBC announced a new season of Rebus just yesterday, with filming already underway. The crime drama follows the titular character, played by Richard Rankin, as he navigates the complex world of Scottish crime and personal conflict.

What's in store for season 2?

The new series, written by Gregory Burke and based on Ian Rankin's best-selling books, will explore the links between violent criminals and the professional bourgeois world of law and finance, where police sometimes fear to tread.

Joining the returning cast are a host of new faces, although their characters are being kept under wraps for now. The returning cast includes Brian Ferguson as Michael Rebus, Lucie Shorthouse as DC Siobhan Clarke, and more.

Unfortunately, there's no word yet on when Rebus season 2 will hit screens, with the first series debuting in May 2024 and attracting 6.3 million viewers. Production has only just started, so perhaps a May 2027 release date is on the cards.
